About Me

I am a dual Australian and British national.  I currently live in Melbourne, Australia, with my wife and two boys.

My experience as an actor:

I trained as an actor in London at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA, now defunct), graduating in 1989.  My training included voice acting and microphone techniques.

While an actor in the UK, I performed almost exclusively in theatre in a variety of roles and venues.  These included roles in productions of Shakespeare (King Lear, Richard III, The Merchant of Venice, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet) and Marlowe (Edward II).  I appeared in productions of modern classics and adaptations of novels (The Plough and the Stars, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Kes.)  I have also performed in musicals and traditional pantomimes (Pacific Overtures, Piaf, Privates on Parade, Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty.)

All these experiences have contributed to the versatility of my voice acting capabilities.

My experience as a physiotherapist:

I also trained as a physiotherapist, graduating with a BSc (Hons) from the University of East London in 2004.  I have 20 years of clinical experience and since qualifying have gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Neurological Rehabilitation and a MSc in Pain Management.

Why might this be relevant?

I believe this will be useful for more "technical" reads, such as:

  • Voice over for in-house training media

  • Medical sales or information videos and "infomercials"

  • Textbooks

  • Popular science books with medical, psychological science and neuroscience content.

Equipment

Recording Space

I have an acoustically treated recording space at home (NB not studio quality or  "sound proofed") which can be used in limited circumstances.  It is best to contact me regarding the use of my home recording space, as the audio quality may not suit your needs. (The Audiobook / Narration Demo was recorded in this space, and engineered in Studio One.)

Microphones

Sennheiser MKH 416 - Shotgun condenser mic

Røde NT2-A - Multi-polar large diaphragm condenser mic.

Interfaces

I have a variety of audio interfaces, an Audient ID4, and a MOTU M2.  I also use a Zoom F3, as a stand-alone recorder and an interface.

Software

I use Reaper or Presonus Studio One 6 (Artist) DAWs to record, edit and mix.  I use Audacity for less complex editing and mixing.
